Crowns & Fillings
There aren't many people who can say, "I’ve never had a cavity.” Most of us have to dedicate time and attention to protecting our oral health. But even with your best efforts, you may still may develop a cavity.
It's very important to see the dentist about damaged or decayed teeth as soon as possible. If you’ve ever tried to put off having a tooth filled, you know that a cavity won't go away by itself. The decay will continue to grow, you may suffer increased pain, and as the tooth becomes more damaged, you run out of cost-effective options for fixing the problem.
At George Family Dentistry, we offer our patients several options for restoring damaged teeth. All are effective, and the one we choose will depend on your individual situation. We will work with you to find the solution that works best for you and returns your teeth to a healthier, more attractive condition than when we started.
Restoring Your Teeth with Crowns & Fillings
Both crowns and fillings are effective for restoring a tooth that’s been compromised by disease or decay. They fix the damage, relieve any lingering pain, and allow you to return to eating and speaking normally.
Heathy teeth are important, but looks are important too, and we always want you to be happy with your appearance. All our restorations are designed to return your tooth to full health and look beautifully natural when finished.
Tooth-colored fillings are one of the most versatile types of restoration we offer. These fillings are made of a combination of materials that look very similar to your natural tooth enamel. This makes tooth-colored fillings perfect for creating seamless repairs as well as correcting minor problems like chipped teeth. When Dr. George is finished with the repair, no one will suspect that you’ve had any work done!
Unlike a filling that is bonded to a space inside your tooth, dental crowns completely encase the tooth, providing a brand new outer layer. Crowns are normally used when a tooth is significantly damaged and a filling is not enough to strengthen and support it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely not! Our goal is to do everything we can to keep you out of pain. By the time you are in pain, the problem may already be very severe. This means that, most likely, we will have to choose treatments that are more complicated and possibly more costly than they would be if we addressed the problem while it was still small.
If you want to avoid ever reaching this point, we encourage you to follow a routine of regular dental visits. The time to see us is when there are no visible problems. If we see a potential problem with our digital x-rays, we can treat it right away, long before it ever causes you any pain.
We recommend that you come in to see us twice a year for checkups and cleanings. Dr. George or our dental hygienist may recommend more frequent visits if you have a history of dental problems. Another important part of keeping your teeth healthy is good oral hygiene practices at home. Brushing and flossing twice a day, combined with regular exams and cleanings, is the easiest way to keep your teeth healthy and free of disease.
Please contact our Portland, IN dental office, and we’ll be happy to arrange an appointment.
