Your Comfort

It can be hard to make sense of tooth pain. You may have a bad toothache that appears to indicate a serious problem but is really caused by something very minor. Other times, a tooth can start to deteriorate without giving you any pain at all. So comfort is not always the best way to know how healthy your teeth are!

But even if you do have dental problems, there’s no reason for you to be uncomfortable! At George Family Dentistry, our goal is to help you keep your teeth healthy so you don’t ever have to worry about tooth pain. Dental problems can still happen, and we’re here to get you the relief you need fast – no matter what the problem is.

Even a simple thing like tooth sensitivity causes many people discomfort. But we can often provide relief with our special desensitizing treatments. Applying fluoride to your teeth helps with sensitivity to cold or sweet foods. Fluoride is very important for keeping your teeth healthy, so these treatments also help reduce the risk of cavities and toothaches.

Healthy Gums Mean Healthy Teeth

If you want your teeth to be really healthy, you have to start by taking care of your gums. Think of your gums as the foundation that holds your teeth in place. If the gums aren’t healthy, your teeth won’t be healthy either.

Periodontal (gum) disease is a problem that occurs when your gums are infected. Some signs that your gums are infected are extreme sensitivity, swelling, and redness. But sometimes infected gums can feel completely normal and go unnoticed without professional help.

During a regular professional cleaning, we look for signs of gum infection. If we find that your gums are infected (which can happen without any obvious signs), we can gently clear up the infection and save your teeth using periodontal therapy (gum treatment).

Protecting Your Teeth

When a nerve in your tooth gets infected, we need to remove the nerve to relieve your pain and save the tooth. Root canal treatment may not be something you like to think about, but you should remember that root canals don’t cause pain – they relieve it! At George Family Dentistry, we’re here to keep you comfortable at all times. We offer many solutions to help you relax during treatment.

Removing a tooth is almost always a last resort. We want to keep all your teeth healthy for as long as possible because it’s good for your oral health and prevents other problems. If necessary, though, Dr. George and our team perform gentle extractions (removal of the tooth) that will remove the painful or infected nerve. If it is necessary to remove a tooth, we will be happy to talk to you about the different solutions we offer for replacing the missing tooth.

Many people grind their teeth, but for some it’s a very serious problem. Constant teeth grinding causes headaches, jaw pain, and early tooth wear. But we can relieve all these problems with a simple dental appliance that fits over your teeth and prevents them from coming into contact with each other. When you can’t grind your teeth, symptoms like headache and jaw pain will go away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Making the decision to protect your teeth is the first step to a healthier smile. If you’ve been proactive with your health care, the answer may be as simple as staying current with routine dental exams and cleanings. These preventive treatments are absolutely necessary for staying a step ahead of decay and disease.

If you currently have some dental problems that need attention, we’ll take the time to talk to you about what’s going on and how we can help. There are many options available that allow us to keep your teeth healthy and intact long into the future.

Teeth with mild to moderate decay can usually be fixed with a simple filling. A tooth with more severe decay or damage may require a dental crown to fully protect it.

Without proper oral hygiene and routine dental care, you may find yourself facing a root canal infection. If this happens, we must remove the infection and protect and strengthen the tooth with a crown. Without a root canal, the tooth will most likely be lost.

The time to take steps to protect your oral health is sooner rather than later. If you’d like to learn about all the ways we can keep your teeth healthy, please call George Family Dentistry to arrange a convenient appointment.
