Meet Our Team

Malcolm George, DDS

Dr. Malcolm George grew up the small Minnesota town of Milaca. His father was a United Methodist pastor and his mother was a special ed teacher. Dr. George spent a great deal of time in music and the arts, and his family frequently took advantage of the lakes and fields to go camping, fishing, and hunting.

Dr. George attended St. Olaf College where he pursued music as a hobby and science as a vocation. In 1991 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with American Chemical Society Certification. He was recruited by Eli Lilly and Company and moved to Indianapolis to work as a bioanalytical chemist at Lilly’s Department of Toxicology.

While working at Eli Lilly, Dr. George spent three years of evenings and weekends at Butler University and IUPUI studying biology. During this time, Dr. George met his wife, Carolyn, who was working on her Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology.

Dr. George eventually left Eli Lilly and graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2002. He instructed a dental assisting class at the dental school before working in private practice with several world-class dentists in Indianapolis. Dr. George started his own practice in Noblesville and enjoyed building a business from scratch, but eventually decided to sell the suburban practice so he could return to a smaller town to enjoy more personal relationships with his patients.

These days, Dr George is enjoying his time in Portland, and when he isn’t helping patients or working on the business, it is family time!  He and his wife have three boys, Andrew, Eric, and Scott, who enjoy running, swimming, Tae Kwon Do, football, basketball, math club, music, science and (more than anything else) video games. The family has always had Border Collies, and Daisy the dog continues the long tradition of Border Collie craziness.  When Dr. George finds a spare minute, he runs down to the basement to the old drum set, the electric guitar, and the stereo where he enjoys music- particularly classic rock (although anything from jazz to country to classical to Motown occasionally finds its way onto the stereo… as long as it’s great, it gets played).

Dr George spends many hours each week with the newest available textbooks in dental specialties as well as the best business and self-improvement books available. He enjoys continuing education, having once spent one week a month for 18 months at the Medical College of Georgia’s dental implant program and more recently taking his entire team to Nashville for fun and new learning opportunities.  Dr. George states “Life-long learning and self-improvement are really enjoyable when your family and community directly benefit.

“I am very fortunate to help people through dentistry, and every morning I look forward to spending the day with our friendly team at George Family Dentistry and with the people in our community that consider George Family Dentistry their dental home."
